Music phones hold a bright future in a market that eliminates the need for music lovers to carry both there form of communication (Cell Phone) and there Music devices (MP3 players) Which One would you choose?
- Motorola Rokr is the first phone to have integrated software to support itunes and it is exclusively offered through Cingular wireless for around $250 USD with a contract.
- Sony Ericsson W800i Walkman uses song integrate media management software and it has no carrier subsidies at the moment. The cost for this phone ranges from $350-499 USD.
- Nokia 3250 Music Phone is the first handset under the makers XpressMusic brand that will identify mobile phones designed to listen to music. It too has no carrier subsidies at the moment. The cost for this phone will range from $399- 599.
To transfer tunes to these phones, you just connect the phone via a USB cable and then drag and drop songs. But the process is slow, ranging from half an hour to an hour. Motorola says the Rokr can carry up to 100 songs, Sony Ericsson claims the W800i can accommodate up to 150 songs, and Nokia pronounces that the 3250 can store up to 750 songs with is 1GB storage capacity Compared to the 512mb offered by Sony and Motorola. They are all triband GSM/GPRS handsets, and supports USB 2.0 data transfers. Although the Rokr may have the advantage with the superior software interface (itunes), overall Sony and Nokia offers a better product. The Walkman W800i and the 3250 music phone is a bit smaller, lighter and they works somewhat better as a camera phone, too–it comes with a 2-megapixel camera and flash. Too bad the W800i and 3250 is so expensive!
