Life

Posted on 20 April 2005 by Tommy

I never would of imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be living outside of the US.

A boy from Queens, NYC, having absolutely no aspiration in learning a new culture yet alone traveling is feeling the effects/ benefits reeked from study abroad.

I have always thought that living in New York, the city that never sleeps, was the greatest thing in the world; But I’m slowly beginning to think that’s no longer true.

Sure, it’s the business capital of the world and that’s what I’m really all about, but there is much more to life then having a great career and I’m beginning to realize that.

As I sit here on my computer, alone for once in FB, I begin to think about how much life is better in the UK. A saying from a professor in one of my modules: “People here don’t live to work they really just work to live” has got me think how true that really is. Sure I don’t have family here and at times that can make living in the UK lonely but good friends can quickly heal that void…

Life as a whole is just so much more relaxed, People are not in a rush, they often act more mature, and they really do know how to time manage!!!

Is this the life I have been longing for? Not for the longest time but my outlook on life is slowly changing…

Sure I like to have that successful career of climbing the corporate latter and the possibility of owning my own business someday but in what kind of environment do I see myself longing to be around…

That is still very unclear but NYC is slowly beginning to fade as my preferred choice. It will always have its mark on me because that’s where I’m from, but I cant see myself staying there forever…at least not anymore…

Leaving for Study Abroad

Posted on 14 January 2005 by Tommy

Study Abroad… a once in a lifetime experience, calmed by many. I never really intended to take this route but given that I hardly ever travel, I thought to myself this would be a good experience to learn about the side of the world that I have yet to see.

The events leading up to the actually study abroad has been very troublesome. Forms here, photos there, essays needed, flights, plans for Easter trip…massive research and advise. But I’m glad that I experience the administrative part, it can only further my growth in the whole experience.

With only a week left I’m set to fly in to London (Heathrow) on the 23rd of January via Virgin Atlantic Airlines. Then a 3 hour couch ride to Nottingham. I have still yet to start packing.
